The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said a badly decomposed body was found Monday evening in suburban West Palm Beach.
According to a PBSO news release, a person in the area of Southern Boulevard and Haverhill Road found the body along a canal bank shortly before 6 p.m.
Detectives and crime scene investigators arrived at the scene.
Due to the advance decomposition of the body, PBSO said detectives called a forensic anthropologist to assist with the investigation.
PBSO said the scene would be preserved overnight until the anthropologist arrived Tuesday morning.
The remains will then be taken to the medical examiner’s office.
PBSO said the investigation is still very active and ongoing.
