Florida Power and Light is set to open up a new 16,000 square feet manatee attraction in Riviera Beach.

The hope is that the center draws in visitors and brings awareness to one of Florida's most iconic animals.

It will offer two levels of exhibits, interactive touch screens and meeting spaces for visitors.

Those visitors will be able to learn about manatees and what makes these animals so unique.

All of this is free for visitors.

Jorge Pesquera with Discover the Palm Beaches says this facility could be big for tourism in our area.

"I think it's going to be a terrific attraction. I think it's going to be a very high demand, and we look forward to working with Florida Power and Light and the people running the facility to promote it and to make sure everybody knows about it," said Pesquera.

The Manatee Lagoon is set to open up officially on Feb. 6.
