Stacey Konwiser was in the tiger night house where the animals are fed and was getting one of the male tigers ready for a show when she was attacked and killed Friday.
But, it wasn’t the first incident involving a tiger at the Palm Beach Zoo.
There was also an incident 8 years ago.
A report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission states a keeper was training and rewarding a tiger with food when her finger was bitten in 2008.
The report described this as an accident by the keeper and hand feeding would no longer be allowed.
The circumstances of Stacey Konwiser's death have not been made public.
But the zoo’s tiger exhibit procedures from 2006 include a checklist for zookeepers working in the area.
Zoo protocol calls for a two person rule for all dangerous animals.
Some of those protocols on the list include:
*Checking holding yard locks in the tiger area.
*Keepers working together to secure and open doors to allow tigers access to the night house.
*Radios for keepers to make FYI announcements that cats are in.
Stacey Konwiser's family will honor her in a private memorial service at the zoo, according to a zoo spokesperson.
