The Florida Highway Patrol said two people were killed, including a 17-year-old girl, Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 98.
The crash was reported at 5:40 p.m.
Walter Earl Stripling, 79, of Okeechobee, Fla., was driving a 2007 Toyota Rav 4 westbound on U.S. Highway 98 northwest of NW 58th Lane.
A second vehicle, driven by Ashley Ann Carter, 17, of Okeechobee, Fla., was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion eastbound on U.S. Highway 98.
FHP said Stripling crossed over into the eastbound lane, crashing into the left side of Carter’s Fusion.
Stripling’s Rav 4 rotated counterclockwise and came to a final rest in the east and westbound lanes facing southeast.
The Fusion was sent off the southern shoulder of the road, overturned and landed on its roof.
Stripling was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carter was taken to Raulerson Hospital where she later died.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
