A burn ban is now in effect county-wide in Okeechobee, according to Okeechobee County Fire Chief Ralph Franklin.
The ban, which also includes the city of Okeechobee, is due to dry conditions.
NOT ALLOWED
burning yard trash
campfires
bonfires
fireworks (unless permitted by the Fire Chief having jurisdiction)
ALLOWED
Residential outdoor cooking in equipment designed to contain the fire, flame and heat it generates
Burning permitted by The Florida Division of Forestry
The county says the burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
Violators face a $500.00 fine, up to 60 days in jail, or both.
