A local exotic animal rescue group is raising concerns after reports that the animals may have been left not cared for for days.

Thursday morning, Animal Care and Control officers followed up on a complaint related to that animal rescue group.

It’s called Scales and Fur located off Sandlefoot Blvd. in West Boca.

“We responded today to try an gain access and determine if there was anything else left alive but we were unable to get access,” said Captain Dave Walesky with Animal Care and Control.

FWC say it is no longer investigating the situation since all of the animals have been removed
and placed elsewhere.

However, an animal sanctuary in Miami that rescued some of these animals said the animals came in in pretty bad shape.

“I was appalled,” said Cynthia Robert with We Care Wildlife Sanctuary. “I was disgusted. I was angry. I felt so bad for these animals."

While it’s not entirely clear why the animals may have been left alone, we learned the founder of the group had recently been arrested on heroin related charges.

The group’s Facebook page says it has currently been put on hold “due to personal health issues."
