Boca Raton police on Tuesday said they have arrested a second suspect in connection with the shooting death of a Florida Atlantic University student on Dec. 29.

Police said they have arrested Rodrick Woods, 23, of Miami, in the homicide of Nicholas Acosta at the University Park Apartments.

Acosta suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and died later that evening.

On Dec. 30, Boca Raton detectives arrested Donovan Malik Henry and charged him with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Police said the investigation into the telephone records of Henry revealed multiple phone numbers from the day of the shooting.

One of the numbers was registered to a Woods, whose description matched a suspect who was captured on video surveillance.  That suspect followed Henry into the University Park Apartment shortly before the fatal shooting.

Police said Woods was also seen running from the apartment complex after the shooting.  Detectives said video footage showed a distinctive tattoo on Woods’ arm.

An investigation revealed that Woods' phone records place him in the area of the University Park Apartments at the time of the slaying.  Police said a witness identified Woods from surveillance video.

Detectives charged Woods with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Woods was arrested in Miami-Dade County on Monday.  No bond was set during a hearing Tuesday morning.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
