BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Police have identified a body found in a canal on Sunday.

Boynton Beach police responded to a report of a body floating in a canal near 1000 Coral Court on Sunday afternoon.

The body of Joann Zuccala, 53 of Boynton Beach, was found with a dog swimming beside her. The dog's leash was tangled with items that were in the canal. The dog was able to be rescued.

On the bank of the canal, there was a spot where it appeared someone had slipped down.

It is unknown whether the dog fell first and Zuccala went after it, or if Zuccala fell and the dog went in after her.

Detectives believe it to be an accidental drowning.

Their investigation continues.
