Boynton Beach police responded to a call of two children pointing BB guns at cars on Miner Road and Ocean Parkway Monday afternoon.
Officers say the children, 10 and 12-years-old, begun to run when police arrived, but stopped and dropped the weapons.
One of the officers said the guns looked so real he didn't realized it was a BB gun until he got up close and saw it written on the barrel.
The young boys were then released to the custody of their mother.
Police are using this as a stern warning that it's not always easy for them to tell a fake gun from a real one.
Real or fake? Boys, 10 & 12, were pointing BB guns at passing cars. Officers explained just how badly this could've gone. Guns are not toys. pic.twitter.com/pB46Vup74N
