The Florida Highway Patrol said Monday morning they are investigating a fatal crash at a rest area in St. Lucie County.
The incident occurred at 4:39 a.m. at mile marker 132 near the Fort Pierce rest area.
FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky said a vehicle entered the rest area and lost control. The vehicle then hit a sign and struck the rear of a tractor-trailer and caught fire. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene
Chopper 5 flew over the scene at 6:40 a.m. and spotted the back end of the semi was damaged.
FHP said drivers should use caution in the area since the rest area will be closed on the Interstate 95 southbound side.
The victim's name has not been released.
