Fans take in Tim Tebow's spring training debut

Posted

Fans came from near and far for “Tebow Mania” in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday.

The former University of Florida Quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner made his Spring Training debut for the New York Mets. So far, Tebow is 0-2 with a strikeout and has grounded into a double play.

That didn’t bother thousands of fans. Close to 7,000 fans packed First Data Field.

Angelo and Mary Jo Mendola came from Merrit Island to see Tebow today.

“It’s Tebow time,” says Angelo who used to work at the football stadium in Gainesville.

Molly Manuel of Jupiter brought Tim Tebow’s book “Shaken” hoping to get an autograph.

“I’m a Braves fan, but I’m also a Tebow and a Gator fan,” says Manuel.

Some were not even Tebow fans like Patrick Pinak of West Palm Beach.

“I’m not a huge fan, I just want to see what all the hype is about,” says Pinak.

The question on the minds of fans throughout the day is whether the former Heisman Trophy winner is good enough to make it in the big leagues.

“I don’t know if he’ll make it, but I like him. He’s a role model,” says Betty Brennan sporting her Tebow shirt.

Before the game Tebow took time during warm-ups to sign a few autographs along the third base line.
