(CNN) - A South Florida university is awarding Trayvon Martin a posthumous degree five years after he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.
Martin was killed at the age of 17 in Sanford, Fla., a case that garnered worldwide attention in 2012.
Florida Memorial University, a historically-black university in Miami Gardens, Fla., will award him a posthumous bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Science.
His parents will accept the degree on his behalf at the school's commencement May 13. Martin's mother is an alumnus of the school.
His family said Trayvon wanted to become a pilot before the fatal shooting.
