THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Incredible footage has surfaced of firenadoes swirling across a Dutch town on New Year's Day.

It started when a New Year's Eve bonfire whirled out of control, causing multiple fires to break out in the Dutch sea side resort of Scheveningen.

From there, a few firenadoes were seen sweeping across the beach front.

Eyewitness videos captured the whirling firenadoes moving over the sand and embers and ash being blown across the sky.

Emergency services were present at the scene and the boulevard had been cleared, Scheveningen police said on Twitter.

The bonfire, which is made out of wooden pallets, is held annually as a competition with the neighboring Duindorp.
