1. The moment Twitter was waiting for... Biden picks Kamala Harris as VP
Sen. Kamala Harris of California will be Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election.
The presumptive Democratic nominee announced Tuesday that Harris will join him on the ticket. If she and Biden win in November, she would become the first woman and African-American elected as vice president.
Biden’s selection comes after weeks of vetting several candidates for the role, all of which were women because the former vice president vowed to run alongside a female prospect.
2. Is that you, Josephine? Tropical Depression 11 strengthens
Tropical Depression 11 formed Tuesday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The depression is expected to become a tropical storm by Wednesday night, but it's not expected to have any impact in South Florida.
If it becomes Tropical Storm Josephine, it will be the 10th named storm this year.
3. Will college football kickoff? Not with 2 of the Power 5
And then there were three. The Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 12 and Southeastern Conference were still moving forward with plans for a fall college football season.
Two other Power Five leagues, the Big Ten and the Pac-12, have called things off.
Smaller conferences, the Mid-American and Mountain West Conferences, previously announced they were postponing the start of the 2020 football season.
4. Struggling to find Dr Pepper? You aren't the only one
Add Dr Pepper to the list of pandemic-induced shortages.
Like toilet paper before it, the popular soda is widely unavailable in some parts of the US.
Aluminum cans were facing a shortage problem even before the pandemic hit because of high demand and now its been made worse.
5. Back to school takes a big step back in Georgia
A Georgia school district has quarantined more than 1,000 students and staff members because of possible exposure to the coronavirus since classes resumed this last week.
The Cherokee County School District outside Atlanta said it would also temporarily shut down a hard-hit high school in which a widely shared photo showed dozens of maskless students posing together.
"There have been 59 positive COVID-19 tests confirmed among our students and staff, which have led us to mandate two-week quarantines for 925 students and staff," Superintendent Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.

On August 12, 1990, fossil hunter Susan Hendrickson discovers three huge bones jutting out of a cliff near Faith, South Dakota. They turn out to be part of the largest-ever Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered, a 65 million-year-old specimen dubbed Sue, after its discoverer.
