They are running in Congressional District 18, which covers Martin, St. Lucie and part of Palm Beach County.

Mast, an Army veteran who lost both his lower legs in the war in Afghanistan, was elected to Congress two years ago.

Baer is an attorney and former State Department official who worked in President Obama's administration.

WPTV news anchor Michael Williams served as host and moderator of the debate.

The candidates discussed everything from the environment to the economy and from health care to immigration. A big talking point was the blue-green algae that once again impacted the Treasure Coast this summer.

Baer says she would push for more monitoring from the EPA, and limits on what can go into the lake. Mast pointed out his work with the southern reservoir, and the water resource and development act to help prevent the algae.

During Monday's debate, Baer also talked about her support for the Affordable Care act. Mast suggested improving health care by increasing competition in the insurance market.
