NewsChannel 5 Meteorologist Tyler Mauldin joined WPTV in July 2013. His forecasts can be seen on-air every Saturday and Sunday morning, and whenever severe weather breaks. He also serves as the station’s first Digital Meteorologist.

Tyler is no rookie to Florida's intense weather patterns. Being that he’s a former meteorologist in Fort Myers, he’s all too familiar with the state’s wicked weather. In fact, Tyler single handedly walked Southwest Florida through the largest tornado outbreak in over 40 years as Tropical Storm Debby approached the peninsula.

Not only that, but he was also a part of their 48 hour wall-to-wall team coverage as Hurricane Isaac reached the state, and he tag teamed over 5 hours of tornado coverage when Tropical Storm Andrea barreled down on the Big Bend of Florida in June 2013.

Prior to joining WPTV Tyler worked for Waterman Broadcasting where he was in charge of the weather segments for WBBH-TV and their sister station WZVN-TV. Before moving to Florida he worked for WDEF-TV in Chattanooga, TN and WNEG-TV in Athens, GA.

Tyler graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens with a degree in Atmospheric Sciences. He just received the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval. Thus, not only will you have a Meteorologist that can communicate the weather, you’ll have a Meteorologist that really knows the science behind it.

Safety is always his top priority, and having someone viewers can rely on is very valuable. His goal is to keep every family safe during hazardous conditions whether it’s on-air or online. So find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as he constantly keeps you up to date!

When he’s not at the station, Tyler can be found enjoying the outdoors. He likes to kayak, hike, rock climb, work out, and geek out over the weather. He's also an avid baseball and college football fan!
