VERO BEACH, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis said Florida is expected to receive 250,000 new doses of the COVID-19 vaccine next week.

DeSantis made the announcement Thursday during a news conference at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, which is being used as a drive-thru vaccination site for senior citizens.

The governor has repeatedly said that the vaccine should first be distributed to health-care providers, first responders and residents 65 or older.

DeSantis said the Vero Beach location was distributing 500 vaccinations Thursday.

A day earlier, DeSantis said Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens would serve as one of the state's other vaccination sites.

"We've got some more of those that will be coming very soon throughout the state," DeSantis said.
