Should I laugh or should I cry? It’s not just the title of a 1981 song by ABBA – it’s how you sometimes feel when something is either so absurd or so maddening or so something that you’re just not sure how to react. We here at DecodeDC think politics and the actions of those who play in the political arena are filled with laugh or cry moments. We hope you do too.
A member of Congress is trying to pass legislation that would stop something most people already may think is banned from the workplace: watching porn during work hours.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., recently introduced The Eliminating Pornography from Agencies Act, which would prevent employees at government agencies from watching lascivious material from their government computers at the office.
Yes, apparently that is sometimes a problem in our nation’s capital.
An Inspector General report last year found that a staffer at the Environmental Protection Agency watched as much as six hours of pornography per day in his office, downloading as many as 7,000 pornographic files onto his government computer. It’s just one example of government employees’ apparent lack of impropriety in the workplace.
“There is absolutely no excuse for federal employees to be viewing and downloading pornographic materials on the taxpayers’ dime,” Meadows said in a statement about his bill. “While many agencies currently have rules on the books prohibiting employees from looking at porn or other inappropriate websites, it nonetheless still happens.”
