It’s hard to believe that Princess Charlotte has turned 5. To celebrate the milestone, Kensington Palace released some beautiful photographs of Charlotte, who is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne. They were taken by none other than her mom, Kate Middleton, who is known for her accomplished camera skills.
The pics were added to the official Kensington Palace Instagram page on May 1, the day before Princess Charlotte’s birthday, with the caption: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share four new photographs of Princess Charlotte ahead of her fifth birthday tomorrow. The images were taken by The Duchess as the family helped to pack up and deliver food packages for isolated pensioners in the local area.”
The following day, the royals thanked the public for all their “lovely messages” and shared another new photograph of Princess Charlotte, which was also taken by the Duchess of Cambridge.
They may not be typical birthday snapshots with balloons and cake, but it shows that even the youngest royals are getting involved in efforts to help their local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
That doesn’t mean Princess Charlotte didn’t have lots of fun on her special day. According to the Express, she had a Zoom call with her friends and family, including Queen Elizabeth, Charlotte’s great-grandmother. A source told the newspaper that there was also cake and games to make sure the young royal had lots of fun, despite the difficult circumstances everybody is facing right now.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have tried to keep their three children out of the limelight (Princess Charlotte has a big brother, Prince George, who is 6, and the youngest, Prince Louis, turned 2 on April 23).
At the same time, they’ve allowed regular glimpses into their family life, including previous birthdays and their first days at school.
However, it’s going to be hard to beat the photo of Charlotte sticking her tongue out at a fundraising event in August 2019. She may be a royal, but she’s really just like any other 5-year-old.
Happy birthday, Princess Charlotte!
