Subway's $5 Footlong may be a thing of a past come next month.

Franchisees will no longer be required to sell the signature item, reports USA Today

When the sandwich chain brought back it's infamous footlong deal in 2017, many franchisees were upset, saying the deal hurt their businesses.

That doesn't mean all cheap eats are disappearing from your local Subway though. Subway CEO Trevor Haynes told USA Today they are encouraging franchises to create their own special deals for their market. Subway lovers in San Francisco can buy a $3.99 6-inch sub, for example.

In 2016, the chain closed more than 350 of its stores and sales dropped 1.7 percent, according to Business Insider.
