Cirque show comes to Boca through February 20

Posted

Playing on select dates through February 20 is a Cirque show called "From Gatsby to Glam."  The greatest musical hits from the '20s - 70s are celebrated through dance, live music, and Circus.

I met aerial dancer Nina Mann as she flew above me to demonstrate some of her moves. I learned her father was on the other end of the rope high above in the church's ceiling ensuring her safety.

Ellie Steingraeber who does tricks with hula hoops in the show tried to teach me how to do it.  My fears mounted because I haven't picked up a hula hoop since an embarrassing playground incident in third grade.

"Really basic hula hooping with the neck.  Flatten out the hoop so it's not tipping down, or tilted up," coached Ellie.

Complaining I say, "Oh! I hit my lip.  It's third grade all over again!" As I finally was able to hula hoop for the first time in my life I quip, "You and Lindsay Estill are going down!"

"I knew you could do it" Ellie laughs!

I am scared of heights so of course, Tad Emptage showed me how to swing! And then put me in a hammock (watch the video above).

The show is at Spanish River Church at 8 p.m. on February 13, 19, and 20.  Tickets started at $40 and you can buy them at spanishriverconcerts.com.
