Opening Thursday at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is a new $1.1 million, five-acre enlargement with new exhibits.
Today workers started putting on finishing touches on its new backyard expansion. While the target audience is for kids, that didn't keep me from having a little fun checking out 15 new outdoor exhibits including this whisper dish.
I questioned Marketing Director Melinda Velasquez, "So I am supposed to be able to hear you from over here?"
"Yes, yes, we're about fifty feet apart," said Melinda.
"Hello," I say quietly.
"I can hear you," says Melinda.
"That's so crazy,' I giggle.
Other exhibits include a splash pad, giant musical instruments, gem panning station, giant swinging pendulum, and a dig pit where you search for shark teeth.
"That's a real shark tooth. So we do ask that guest dig with caution," teases Melinda. You can even race rockets.
The most prominent features are the permanent dinosaurs gracing the lawn. They will be a part of a newer and bigger dinosaur exhibit opening October 13. This year the animatronic dinosaurs will be life-size, make noises, and half of the exhibit will be outside because the dinosaurs are so big.
