PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The only thing more horrifying than Fright Nights is the annual event not happening this year at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Because of the coronavirus pandemic that is the case for 2020.

ONLY ON 5: Fright Nights is run by the same organization that operates the South Florida Fair. The annual three-week fair happens each January. Leaders met Thursday to start discussions on how the 2021 version might operate during the coronavirus pandemic. The group said they are putting the 'safety of 'guests, volunteers, and staff' first in all decisions. A spokesperson said it's still too early to tell about the event's future and there would possibly be an announcement by October.

Fright Nights typically runs three weekends each October and attracts thousands of guests.

“The safety of our guests, volunteers and staff will always be first and foremost. Given the nature of this event, where large groups of people walk closely together through dark corridors in the haunted houses, we could not ensure social distancing.”
Vicki Chouris, president & CEO of the South Florida Fair

This year would have been the 19th annual Fright Nights. The group says it plans to bring the event back for 2021.
