WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A full week into the new year and many airline passengers are still crossing their fingers when they head to the airport.
Whether it's weather or COVID-19, there are still delays and cancellations throughout the region.
There were a total of 23 flights that were impacted on Sunday. Most of them were from Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines.
According to Flightaware, there were ten flight cancellations at Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday and 13 flights that were delayed. On Saturday, there were 45 delayed flights and six cancellations.
Some of the passengers said they have been trying to book other flights or wait 24 hours until they can fly back home.
A Minneapolis couple at the airport has been trying to get another flight home after their afternoon flight was canceled.
“We’re trying right now to get flights. But there are no flights at this time, very few that can get back. We have commitments tomorrow, scheduled surgery. We’re just trying to get back,” said Leslie Smith.
According to Flightaware, there are four canceled flights so far on Monday from United.
A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines issued the following statement: "Southwest Airlines made flight adjustments across the network in reaction to disruptions created by recent winter storms – which impacted several of our largest bases of operations throughout the past week – and ongoing staffing challenges reflective of the national uptick in COVID-19 cases and required quarantines. We appreciate the patience and support from our Customers as we work diligently, and safely, to get them to their destinations as promised. As always, we encourage Customers to check their flights status at southwest.com."
