Pop the bubbly!
Champagne is just as healthy as red wine, according to a study by the University of Reading. It contains high levels of anti-oxidants found in red grapes, called polyphenols. That helps lower blood pressure, and helps the heart.
The University of Reading report, published in 2013, states that a couple of glasses of champagne per week — moderate consumption — helps with memory loss. The research was conducted on rats, and researchers are looking to translate that information to humans.
"We encourage a responsible approach to alcohol consumption, and our results suggest that a very low intake of one to two glasses a week can be effective," said one professor in the report.
