Are you dressing up your pet for Halloween? You are not alone. Thousands of pet owners across America will be dressing up Fido this weekend.
While there are hundreds of pet costumes on the market, two classics are leading the charge. According to a PetSmart spokesperson, Batman and Superman are the two most popular pet costumes sold by the chain in 2015.
PetSmart said that the battle for top costume is “neck-and-neck” between the two costumes. The costumes are available in a number of sizes to fit all dogs, and are selling for less than $6, according to PetSmart website.
Other varieties of costumes available at PetSmart include cowboy, hot dog, pumpkin and witch.
There are costumes available for other pets, including outfits designed for guinea pigs and fish. Among the selection for guinea pigs are cowboy, turkey and bumblebee costumes.
At Petco, the best selling costumes have been various Star Wars costumes. Its No. 1 pet costume seller has been the X-Wing Fighter.
A Petco spokesperson said it recently conducted a survey that found 50 percent of respondents will include their pet in Halloween festivities. Of those 50 percent, 84 percent will be participating in trick-or-treat, and 68 percent will get a special Halloween treat from their owner.
