Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared some exciting news on Valentine’s Day — they’re expecting another baby!

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” the couple announced in a statement.

The black-and-white image accompanying the statement was taken by the couple’s friend and photographer Misan Harriman in the garden of their Montecito, California, home, and Markle’s baby bump is visible through her Carolina Herrera dress by Wes Gordon (made for her during her pregnancy with Archie).

“Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow,” the photographer on Twitter. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”

The date of the announcement may have a greater significance than Valentine’s Day. According to royal correspondent Omid Scobie, Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, chose the same holiday 37 years ago to tell the world that she was pregnant with Prince Harry.

Last July, Markle suffered a miscarriage — something she opened up about in an op-ed titled “The Losses We Share,” which was published in The New York Times in November. Revealing that she felt a sharp pain in her stomach as she changed Archie’s diaper, she wrote, “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Harriman said that in his photo, the couple is “moving forward.”

“With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates,” Harriman told Vogue.

For those wondering how the photo shoot took place during COVID-19 restrictions, it was all done remotely. According to Vogue, the couple set up an iPad which was remotely connected to Harriman at his home in London.
