The 'America Saves Week,' an annual incentive to boost savings, kicks off Monday. The goal is to encourage individuals and families to save money and build personal wealth.

The event started in 2007 and is coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council.

A recent survey shows six out of 10 people have less than $1,000 dollars in savings accounts and two out of them, don't have one.

Visualizing your goal makes saving easier.  Americasavesweek.org is holding an "I am saving for" social media contest. When you show everyone what you are saving for, you may win $500 dollars, according to the event website.

'America Saves Week' has also provided a 10-point checklist to access your savings, with ideas on how to make sure you are saving what you need for the future.

America Saves Week ends Saturday, February 27.
