The FDA on Wednesday issued a recall for some tattoo inks contaminated with microorganisms which could cause serious health injuries and infections.
The recall says you should ask the tattoo artist about the inks they use and avoid the inks listed below:
- Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA, and Scalpaink AL basic black tattoo inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics (all lots)
- Solid Ink-Diablo (red) tattoo ink manufactured by Color Art Inc. (dba Solid Ink) (dba Antone's Ink) (lot 10.19.18)
Tattoo artists and retailers should avoid using or selling the inks mentioned above.
If you have experienced symptoms of infection or an injury from a tattoo, contact a healthcare professional and inform their tattoo artist.
The FDA also says you should consider reporting the injury to MedWatch: FDA’s Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
