JUPITER, Fla. — Heather Canning is known in the community as ‘One Organized Mom.’

“I wear so many hats, head mom, president, CEO, founder,” she said.

She started her cleaning company, ‘One Clean Mom” ten years ago.

“I was a stay at home mom with three little kids, and my husband got laid off from corporate America,” Canning recalled. “We had absolutely no income coming in. We were about 30 days away from being homeless and I said, I have to do something.”

She picked up her sponge and cleaning solution and never set it down, 2019 was their best year yet. She had 30 employees and business was good. Then a pandemic.

“I think it really hit us about 5 weeks ago, unfortunately, we had to start laying off our staff,” she said.

Canning is down to 14 employees. One of them is Latia Cunningham.

“Leaving my family and then coming back that’s the biggest challenge I think that is right now,” Cunningham said.

However, Cunningham says she enjoys helping people during this difficult time.

“Very appreciative, ya they are very appreciative,” Cunningham said.

Canning has a plan to help too. She and her husband are giving away cleaning solutions and preparing to launch a program to clean first responders' homes for free. But then more disappointing news.

“There's no more funds to go around. We did apply for the Federal Disaster Loan around 3 weeks ago and then we applied for the PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) two weeks ago with our banker and obviously we’re not going to get it.”

Canning says she’s not giving up, now one organized mom is turning into one determined mom.

“We want to bring our people back,” she said.
