Oregon officials confirmed on Friday a case of coronavirus from someone who has no known travel exposure to the disease.

The announcement came as two similar cases in California have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Adding to the concern is that this person has spent time in an elementary school recently.

"We're working with the local school officials and the Oregon Department of Education in the response," Patrick Allen said.

"There was no known travel exposure for this individual. So this is a case of community spread of the disease, much like the case from California earlier this week," Allen added.

Earlier in the week, CDC officials said that schools should prepare for community transmission of coronavirus. The CDC expects that the virus to reach a point in the US where it could be transmitted within communities.
