The start of the school year is about to make your daily routine much busier.

It's time to start getting ready. Just ask Shannon Culp. She the Timber Trace Elementary media specialist and the mother of two school age children.

"This is definitely the time to help your kids to have those discussions, those talks with them. This is what we're going to do in a typical day and children learn best by example," said Culp.

With Culp’s help we created a list of the top 5 apps parents and students should use this school year.

# 1  i-Ready

Parents of Palm Beach County students, you'll see this a lot as this year as it will be used in kindergarten through 5th grade.

The app features fun games, like World’s Worst Pet, that include vocabulary lessons equivalent to state standards. Outside of school this app and associated games can be downloaded for a relatively low cost.

#2 Cram

Flashcards are such a good tool for remembering things.

The Cram app enables you create your own on your smartphone. Cram is a free app.

#3 Google Calendar

This app allows you to color code tasks on your calendar.

Color code each task on your calendar so each person knows "who does what".

"Keep just a to-do list but it's an electronic one. A lot of people just use sticky notes and they're tacking sticky notes and they get lost in the shuffle so it's great to use on the phone," Culp said.

#4 Documents to Go

Keep that paper you're writing handy without opening your email each time for access. This app keeps all your documents saved on one app.

It cuts out the middle man, because many times your iPhone has to use open iBooks to open a document.

#5 A Tracker Pro

With the seemingly endless amount of tasks, how do you know you're keeping on track and using your time wisely?

A Tracker Pro is a free app for IPhone and keeps tabs on how long you’re spending on each task.

The app will create a report showing you if you're spending too much time on something, or not enough.
