State health leaders confirm there are two cases of Zika virus in South Florida that are not related to travel. The cases are in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
They could be the country's first cases that were transmitted by local mosquitoes.
Sexual transmission of the virus could still be a possibility.
State Surgeon General Celeste Philip said, "The individuals do not have travel history themselves, that's the only mode that we feel pretty certain has been ruled out."
State health workers today issued warnings to prenatal providers and blood donation centers in the affected areas.
They are also interviewing those who came into contact with the infected people.
