Dr. Celina Moore, a pediatrician at West Boca Medical Center, said this is especially true for high school students.
"It takes several days for your body to accumulate to a new bed times and new wake up times, and if you would like to do a more gentler approach, you can be moving up the bed time by 20 minutes every night before, so it wouldn't' be quite a shock to the system," said Moore.
Parents should also make sure their children are up to date on their vaccinations before the school year starts.
