A Treasure Coast trooper has been recognized for his bravery.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody issued a 'Back the Blue Award' to Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Mithil Patel at a meeting of the Florida Cabinet.

Last December, Patel pushed a man out of the way of a spinning carand was injured in the process.

“The selflessness and bravery Trooper Patel exhibited without hesitation, and without regard for his own safety, shines an example of the men and women who dedicate their lives to serve and protect others," Moody said in a statement.

She added: "It is law enforcement of ours, like Trooper Patel, who are real-life heroes we should all admire and strive to emulate. Thank you, Trooper Patel for your service and sacrifice for the safety of Floridians.”

Patel suffered a concussion, as well as bruising and lacerations, but did not break any bones. He has since returned to work.

Patel is part of Troop L-Fort Pierce District.

Attorney General Moody said her Back the Blue campaign is designed to showcase law enforcement officers, the public and groups who take extraordinary steps to create positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
