MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — School is back in session for students in Martin County, and sheriff’s deputies are making sure your children arrive and get home from school safely.
Starting Monday, deputies will be on patrol looking for drivers that are breaking traffic laws.
They are looking for speeders both in and outside of school zones where the speed limit is 20 mph.
They will also be citing drivers who don’t stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and school buses. By law, drivers need to stop when school bus lights are flashing, and the stop signals are extended.
The only time you don’t have to stop for a school bus is if there is a median at least 5 feet wide or you are on a divided highway.
