Girl asks Santa for food and blanket; donations pour in

EDINBURG, Tx.-- A teacher in Edinburg, Texas is helping one of her student's Christmas wishes come true.

First-grade teacher Ruth Espiricueta assigned her class at Monte Cristo Elementary to write a letter to Santa.

As she read over the notes she noticed one of her students named Crystal asked for something simple, yet special: Food, a blanket, and a ball.

Espiricueta posted the letter on social media and received an enormous amount of feedback from people wanting to help Crystal and other students at the school.

Wednesday the youngsters received those gifts.

"You know what this is something people need to know about. A lot of students have some needs and...not only in our school, I'm pretty sure throughout our district, throughout the valley...just if you do see or notice something you know try and help out," Espiricueta said.

The school received so many donations that it is now giving them to neighboring schools for students in need.
