Hugs for officers: Iowa woman finds way to show gratitude to police

Posted

(KWWL, NBC NEWSCHANNEL) After last week's tragic shooting in Dallas, Diane Ebert of Waterloo, Iowa wanted to find a way to say thank you to police officers.

Now she's traveling across Eastern Iowa giving hugs and handshakes, which she felt inspired to do so after watching YouTube videos of people lining up to hug officers in Dallas.

She said there was no reason she shouldn't do the same thing in Iowa.

"It's been so much fun," Ebert says. "There's some that don't do the hugs, and that's okay with me as long as I can give them a handshake and just let them know, I pray for you often and thank you for your service."

Ebert says it's important that people continue to show their gratitude.
