SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The NFL "take a knee" controversy took a surprising turn during Thursday night's match between the San Francisco 49'ers and the LA Raiders.
A cheerleader for the 49ers was standing in formation with the others when she suddenly took a knee.
The cheerleader has not been identified.
Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sparked the wave of protests two seasons ago when he took a knee to protest police brutality and racial inequality.
The 49ers said they did not have a comment on the matter at this time.
