SAN SIMEON, Calif.-- San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office deputies came to the aid of a wayward elephant seal this week.

They believe the seal was a young male who lost a fight with an older male, journeyed off the beach across the road, and got lost.

Video posted on the department's Facebook page showed the deputies waving their arms and guiding the seal toward the water.

It happened on Highway One near a seal sanctuary along the coastline. Police say The Marine Mammal Center helped with the effort.

The sheriff's office said: "You never know what your day will look like when you put on your uniform."
