A teenager was detained after opening an emergency exit and jumping from a plane after it landed at San Francisco International Airport Tuesday.

Airport officials say the incident took place after Copa flight 208 from Panama City landed at the airport and was waiting to taxi to its arrival gate.

Officials say the 17-year-old boy opened up the overwing emergency exit door, exited the aircraft and started running up the tarmac.

Officials say the teen, who is a U.S. citizen, was accosted by a construction crew working nearby on the airfield.

Officials say the teen was not injured but was transported to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

"All the windows were closed, but then all of a sudden, someone said like, 'Pop the windows open' and the emergency door was open. That's it. Luckily we just landed on the tarmac and everybody was like, 'the emergency door's open,' and they're like, 'something happened,' " said witness Anielka Ruiz.

Airport officials say no runways were affected and there was no operational impact at the airport.
