One woman died and more than 80 were injured Monday after a DC Metro station and train filled with smoke.
The incident occurred near the L’Enfant Plaza station, CNN reports. L’Enfant is major subway station in downtown Washington about a mile from the U.S. Capitol Building.

Passengers in the train were told to stay put as it filled with smoke, The Washington Post reports. Trapped passengers shared inhalers to aid in breathing. One woman collapsed and was given CPR.
Firefighters arrived 40 minutes later and evacuated passengers through the Metro tunnel.
The station was evacuated and closed around 3:30 p.m. ET. The cause of the smoke has not been determined.

Metro Transit Police said on Twitter that the National Transportation Safety Board is launching an investigation into the incident.
