A 12-year-old boy who was shot and killed by an Ohio police officer will be laid to rest today.

Tamir Rice died Nov. 2 after being shot outside the Cudell Rec Center in Cleveland. He was seen with what turned out to be an airsoft rifle, according to television station WEWS.

Funeral services start at 11 a.m. ET today at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, located at 7510 Woodland Ave. in Cleveland.

The family released a statement Tuesday thanking those who attended Rice's viewing earlier this week at Gaines Funeral Home in Cleveland.

"We’d like to thank everyone who attended Tamir’s viewing earlier this week at Gaines Funeral Home in Cleveland," wrote Samaria Rive and Leonard Warner. "Your prayers have truly helped us. Due to numerous requests from kind individuals who have asked how they can help our family financially, we have set up a fund in Tamir’s honor to help pay for his funeral expenses.

"Donations to The Tamir Rice Memorial Fund can be made at any U.S. Bank location. Again, we’d like to thank everyone for their support and also for respecting our privacy as we grieve the loss of our son. Thank you."
