ODESSA, Texas (AP) — Authorities say two Odessa police officers have been shot while attempting to serve a warrant at an apartment complex in the West Texas city, and a suspect barricaded himself inside.
City spokeswoman Andrea Goodson said the officers were being treated at a hospital Wednesday. Police spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur identified the injured officers as Sgt. Pete Gonzales, who is undergoing surgery, and Officer Cory Wester.
Both are listed in fair condition.
The SWAT team and crisis negotiation team are on the scene at the two-story brick townhomes.
LeSueur said police have no reason to believe there are hostages.
Roads were blocked off in the neighborhood amid the standoff, and residents were asked to stay away from the area.
The Texas Rangers will be taking over the criminal investigation.
