A 4-year-old cancer patient is expecting to spend this Christmas in a Boston hospital.
She is hoping some mail will help keep her company, according to Massachusetts-based WCVB.
Ruby Mae Millea was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover the costs. She has been undergoing treatment at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.
Neuroblastoma is a rare form of cancerous tumor that normally impacts children. The disease develops in the nerve cells, according to stjude.org. The tumors typically develop in the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys but can also begin or spread to other areas.
Most children diagnosed with the disease are diagnosed before age 5.
In Ruby's case, the neuroblastoma was found in a mass above her kidney, according to her GoFundMe page.
The child's GoFundMe page is closing in on its goal of $75,000 with more than $61,000 collected as of Wednesday morning. But the family also is seeking holiday mail for Ruby.
One of Ruby's nurses set up a mail box after a major operation, according to WCVB. Now the family hopes people will write cards to help carry Ruby through the holidays.
