MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Georgia mother has been charged in her own baby's death . It happened after a fight outside of a beauty supply store.
It all happened at Thomas Beauty Supply in Moultrie, Georiga, last Friday. An employee showed WTXL surveillance footage of exactly what happened.
In the white shirt, Karen Harrison is holding her baby. She is then hit by another woman who is standing beside the car.
It happens so quickly, but suddenly the baby is no longer in her hands. People nearby run to pick up the baby while others try to break up the fight.
Police say when Harrison took the baby to the hospital the next day she said the baby was injured at home when he fell from family friend Carneata Clark's arms, which they later found out was not the case. Clark corroborated the story. She's charged with false statements and obstruction of an officer.
The fight is something that's hard for even police to wrap their heads around.
"We investigated the incident and determined the baby did not receive his injuries how it was reported. It was reported to us that the baby had fallen from the caregiver's arms and received the injuries," said Lt. Freddie Williams with the Moultrie Police Department. "Then we got information that there was a fight."
The baby was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died from those injuries.
"This is very disturbing, that two adults would fight in public place," Williams said. "Especially while holding a 3-month-old child in her arms."
Harrison and Clark are still in jail pending charges. Harrison faces a number of charges, including felony murder and child neglect.
Police have not yet released the name of the other woman in the fight. She has not been charged.
