An 8-year-old boy in West Virginia was locked in a retailer's gun safe on Sunday as employees were unable to unlock the door to the safe, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported.
The incident took place at a Rural King store in Bluefield, West Virginia. The boy was reportedly locked in the gun safe for 30 minutes.
A supply of oxygen was pumped into the safe as employees were unable to active the safe's electronic lock.
Eventually, a locksmith was called and a medic had to use the "Jaws of Life" to pry the door open.
“We are not sure exactly how he got locked in,” area Fire Chief David Thompson told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. “But he did not lock himself in because it has to be locked from the outside. A handle has to be turned (to the lock position).”
The boy was reportedly uninjured by Sunday's incident.
