'Click It or Ticket' campaign underway across US

Posted

Law enforcement will increase efforts across the country over the next two weeks to issue tickets to drivers and passengers not wearing their seat belts.

The "National Click It or Ticket" campaign runs May 23 through June 5.

Parents are reminded to always buckle up your children correctly and ensure they are properly strapped in their car seat.

Statistics show that more than half of the passengers killed in crashes from 2010 to 2014 were not wearing seat belts.

In Florida, the front seat passengers must wear their seat belt. This law applies to any car manufactured since 1968.

In addition, all passengers under 18 years old must wear a seat belt or be otherwise restrained by a child car seat.

State law says it is against the law to operate a vehicle if all the passengers do not meet these standards.

The cost for a seatbelt violation in Florida is $30.
