For a few hours this past weekend, a town on the Jersey Shore was closed off to nonresidents.

Belmar was just too crowded, according to a report from the Associated Press. Mayor Matt Doherty announced the decision via Twitter, barring anyone who was coming in along Route 35.

The town had "reached its capacity," Doherty said.

Residents who showed identification were allowed into the beach town, which was celebrating the 29th annual seafood festival.

Road closures lasted about four hours, according to AP.
