INDIANAPOLIS -- A man arrested during a domestic disturbance call died in police custody Thursday night.

Indianapolis police said officers were called to a domestic disturbance where a teenage girl with blood on her said a man had attacked her and her mother.

Officers found a male suspect and a female victim. Police noticed some injuries to her face, and called an ambulance for her injuries.

The male suspect was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery. He was cooperative and willingly submitted to the arrest, police say.

After the ambulance arrived for the victim's facial injuries, the suspect started to complain of chest pain. Medical personnel called a second ambulance for the suspect, who was alert and talking.

The suspect was put into the second ambulance when it arrived. He went into cardiac arrest once escorted into the ambulance. EMS personnel began life-saving efforts on him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager and first injured woman were taken to the hospital in good condition.

Police said they were conducting an in-custody death investigation.
